About

Picture
Hermiston Bujinkan Dojo is a part of the Pacific Northwest Bujinkan Dojo network. The Bujinkan a worldwide martial arts system that is comprised of 9 martial schools from ancient Japan. All true Bujinkan dojos are under Grandmaster Hatusmi. All instructors in the Pacific Northwest Bujinkan Dojo travel to Japan regularly to bring you the best training available!
Bujinkan training adapts to the situation, natural abilities and training levels of each individual. Dojo time is dedicated to improving each student and is never the same class twice. Due to the combat and survival nature of the art, competition is discarded along with ego. The criteria for victory is survival with the idea that one must not need to win, just not lose.
A student is expected to realize each training partner provides something to learn from.
The balance of offense and defense is practiced between the practitioner and the receiver of each technique. Students that train this way will improve twice as fast.
The 9 warrior schools that make up the Bujinkan trains the practitioner to prepare for dangerous or lethal situations and survive with the body, mind and spirit intact. Samurai and shinobi of old used the techniques, methods, and philosophies presented here at Hermiston Bujinkan Dojo to survive on and off the battlefield.

Grandmaster Hatsumi

Masaaki Hatsumi is the 34th grandmaster of Togakure Ryu and the grandmaster of 8 other Ryu (schools) of martial arts from the samurai and shinobi (ninja). He has provided training for many military and government organizations such as the FBI, CIA, the Swiss Guard, and has been Knighted in some European countries as well as having many papal blessings. His training was an integral foundation in the establishment of the Marine Corps Martial Arts Program (MCMAP).  He also has two awards from the Emperor of Japan that can be seen underneath the shrine in the photo pictured above. Above the shrine in the picture is Takamatsu O-Sensei that passed the 9 Ryu-ha or schools onto Hatsumi Sensei. Our Grandmaster decided to open up this authentic samurai and ninja training to the world many decades ago and organize under the name Bujinkan or "Divine Warrior House".
During my travels to train with the Hatsumi Sensei and his top instructors, it amazes me to see his abilities play out as he is attacked by students from all over the world and from different martial paths. He is able to defeat each one despite being in his 80's. Often he will laugh at us after doing a technique that most of us cannot even attempt, and remark "maybe if you train into your 80's you will be able to do this as well".
I encourage all those that train in the Bujinkan to plan on budgeting for a Japan trip to experience this living legend and Japanese National Treasure in person.
Below is a picture of a Hatsumi Sensei class during tea break. At tea break, he will do artwork or calligraphy for you to take home!
